Translation : Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu washed and cleansed the Gu??ica temple with His devotees and associates. In this way He made it as cool and bright as His own heart, and thus He made the temple a befitting place for Lord Sri Krsna to sit.

Every year, during the famed RathYatra festival of Puri, Sri SriJagannath, Balbhadra and Subhadra MaharaniJi are seated in the splendid chariots and taken from the Jagannath temple to the Gundica temple house. Before their arrival, it is made sure that the Gundica temple is cleansed and decorated nicely for welcoming them.
Such was the affection of Lord ChaitanyaMahaprabhu for Krishna that He used to clean the temple Himself. Now by the mercy of SrilaPrabhupada, devotees all over the world get the chance to participate in such Vaishnav festivals every year. This year was no different with devotees from all walks of life assembling at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh and engaging in the loving service of the Lord. When senior devotees explained about the significance of this festival the whole environment was filled with their infectious enthusiasm. Altars, temple premises, prasadam hall, stairways, kitchens, washrooms, and about every nook and corner of the temple were cleaned.

Devotees understand that as they cleanse the temple while chanting the names of Lord Krishna, simultaneously cleansing of their hearts is going on. This experience also acts as a reminder for devotees that even while performing menial services if one is meditating on Krishna, one is sure to make progress in one’s spiritual life. Body engaged in cleaning services, tongue engaged in taking Krishna’s names, ears engaged in listening to them, basking in the aura and aroma of the temple and the pleasing sight of other devotees doing services, it was indeed a perfect opportunity for everyone to immerse fully in Krishna’s service. This Gundicamarjana festival thus held a special place in the spiritual journey of all devotees.

ISKCON PUNJABI BAGH ORGANISES Harinama-sankirtana (the congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord) out in the streets every week in different locations of Delhi, dancing and chanting the maha-mantra Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare accompanied by mridangas (two headed drums) and karatalas (hand cymbals) and many musical instruments.

This month Sankirtan were organized at Karol Month, Nangaloi, Prashant Vihar and Paschim Vihar.

From vedic scriptures we understand that lack of God Consciousness is the root of all individual, social and world problems. By awakening dormant God Consciousness within every individual, there can be peace and prosperity in lives of people. Sankirtan is the prescribed and easiest way for self realization specially meant for current age.

Nirjala Ekadashi

01 Jul 2017, Posted by VANI Group in Audio, Festivals

When the soul is feasting, the body doesn’t mind fasting. PandavaNirjalaEkadashi is a day when devotees don’t just survive the day fasting from food and water, but live it with added vigour to their already high spirits in devotion. And watching them partake in theservice at the temple is no less than a feast to the eyes. Such was the sight at the Punjabi Bagh temple this year on June 5.

Breaking the convention of observing a fast with no-work-only-rest attitude, the day was rather spent in much action. Most devotees chanted 64 rounds of the HareKrishna mantra. Rising early and gathering at the temple, devotees formed a support system to motivate one another for the challenge. Spending more time at the temple, in the association of devotees, doing kirtan, reading books and doing Lord’s service were ways in which devotees kept their hunger and thirst pangs at bay. As night drew close, preparations to stay up all night and do jagran were in full swing. Groups huddled together to sing songs in praise of the Lord. Some fun-filled activities were lined up to pass time in a fruitful way. Devotees played dumb charades and quiz and did extempore speech, to name a few. This was followed with a lecture by HG Rukmini Krishna Prabhu.Absorbing the mind in the thought of the Lord, the night too passed smoothly.

Devotees fasted bearing in mind the advice ofSrilaVyasadevatoBhimasena, the younger brother of MaharajYudhishthir, that in order toreap the benefit of fasting on every Ekadashi during the year and becoming free of all the past sins, one must fast on this Ekadashi without drinking even water. Quenching their thirst by drinking the nectar of the holy name, the devotees at Iskcon Punjabi Baghhad a good time observing the fast.
