It is appropriate to offer yellow flowers too. The vasanta raga should be played on this day. The Deities in the temples\, especially in Vrindavana wear yellow or yellow and green on this day.\nIn places like Vrindavan\, Mayapur\, Jagannath Puri and Udupi many of the women folk dress in yellow also. SUMMARY:Sat-tila Ekadasi 14th Jan 2026
DESCRIPTION:This Ekadasi occurs in the Phalguna month\, as the moon wanes at this time a very special atmosphere is created. The glories of Sat-tila Ekadasi are narrated in the Bhavisyottara Purana in a conversation between the sage Dalbhya and Pulastya muni. \n“Oh esteemed brahmana!” began Dalbhya muni.\n“People are most polluted in the age of Kali\, there are sinful acts taking place at all times! Heinous crimes such as the killing of brahmanas\, killing of cows and general freeloadering are rife. \nPlease elucidate the process by which these perpetrators can be freed from their sinful acts.” \n The sage Pulastya replied: “O my dear friend and fortunate one\, by observing the vow of Ekadasi which falls during the waning moon in the month of Phalguna all sinful reactions can be burnt to ashes. \n “On the Ekadasi day the aspirant should rise early\, bathe and then worship the Lord with prayers: O Lord Janardana! O most merciful Sri Krsna! You are the deliverer of the fettered fallen souls. Please do not exclude anyone from your mercy\, those drowning in an ocean of grief need your mercy most. O Supreme Brahman! O Supreme Personality of Godhead! O Lord of the universe! Please hear my prayer and grant me the boon of assisting you in helping the conditioned souls of the material world. Please accept my fidelity and use me as an instrument in the struggle against Maya. O dear Laksmi devi please be kind to this lowly servant and grant that he may be freed from all anarthas.” \n“Thenceforth one should give charity to brahmanas\, depending on means available one can offer umbrellas\, cloth\, shoes\, sugar\, or a pitcher filled with water. Cows of many colours may also be given and specific to this Ekadasi sesame seeds. By gifting sesame seeds on this day one can live in the heavenly planets for many years. \n“Sesame seeds are used in different varieties on this day; one may bathe in water mixed with sesame seeds\, smear sesame seed paste on the body\, execute fire sacrifices with sesame seeds\, offer oblations to the ancestors with sesame seeds and give sesame seeds in charity. By doing so one will free himself from more sinful reactions than he is able to commit. Thus this Ekadasi is known as Sat-tila. \nNarada Muni once approached Sri Krsna and asked to hear the glories and results of observing Sat-tila Ekadasi; Krsna thus recounted the following story. “In ancient times\, long before the world began even\, there lived a female brahmani called Vanalika. She very soberly followed a strict vow of celibacy and engaged in worshipping the Lord. By constantly fulfilling the edicts of various vows she became emaciated and wearily weak. Although she gave charity to poor brahmanas and unmarried girls\, she never offered food grains and thus the Demigods became wrathful against her. Despite this shortcoming I considered her a purified soul due to her extreme penance and heartfelt generosity towards the beggared brahmanas. \n“O dear Naradaji\, in order to test this brahmani I donned the garb of a mendicant and disguised myself suitably. I personally appeared in this mortal world\, and taking a begging bowl in my own two hands I approached the house of that Vanalika brahmani. \n“As I approached the house she appeared before me and said: “O dear mendicant! Where have you come from and please do not lie to me!?!” \n“I played dumb and asked for charity once more; she became angry and placed a lump of clay in my begging pot. Thereafter I returned to my abode and resumed my duties. In due course of time that self same brahmani also returned to my transcendental abode and got a beautiful house to reside in. However\, due to her misfortune she was bereft of wealth. She had no food grains in the house and gradually she grew restless and approached me with folded palms. She humbly inquired ‘”O Janardana\, I have been engaged for many moons in performing penance and austerity; why am I now bereft of food grains and wealth?”‘ \n“I replied to her thus: “You have come here from the material world\, please return to your new residence and wait for a visit from the Demigods. They will come out of curiosity and the wives of the Demigods will take your darshan; then you should ask them about the glories of Sat-tila Ekadasi. Do not let them leave until they finish the narration. After hearing my instruction Vanalika returned home. \n“One day when she was sitting in her house\, the doors all locked shut. The wives of many Demigods mystically entered and said: “O dear beauty\, we have come to take your darshan\, as a resident of the spiritual realm you are indeed worshippable and we have thus come to see you. \n‘”If you wish to see me then\, please explain the importance\, piety and glories of Sat-tila Ekadasi before you leave.”‘ \n“Thereupon\, one of the wives narrated the glories of this Ekadasi. Upon completing the recountal\, Vanalika became satisfied and the Demigoddesses left\, also satisfied with their darshan. Under the instruction of these munificent creatures Vanalika observed the Sat-tila Ekadasi day and became beautiful\, effulgent and she received plenitude grains\, wealth and gold. \n“However\, no one should observe this Ekadasi being controlled by greed or lust. By following this Ekadasi one’s misfortune and poverty are destroyed. If one donates sesame seeds on this day then all his sinful reactions are vanquished.”

SUMMARY:Putrada Ekadashi 31st Dec 2025
DESCRIPTION:The fantastic glories of Putrada Ekadasi are told in the Bhavisyottara Purana\, they cannot be vilified by any means. This Ekadasi occurs in the waxing moon of the month called Magha (December/January). \nSri Krsna said to Maharaj Yudhistira: “Oh my dear King\, the Putrada Ekadasi is very great; It’s power is incalculable. Anyone who practices penance by abstinence of eating on this day\, receives immeasurable benediction from the Personality of Godhead. All ones sinful reactions are eradicated and great wealth\, fame and sagacity await with folded palms\, eager to serve one who observes this Ekadasi. \n“There was once a great city named Bhadravati\, and a revered King named Suketumana ruled that land. His principle queen was Saivya and she was exquisitely beautiful. Despite being surrounded by great material opulence the maharaja was despondent\, for they had no son. The King and Queen spent much time performing religious activities\, with a hope to one day conceive an heir. \n“Because they were afflicted with great sorrow and misfortune\, their tempers grew hot and their brains boiled with furious agitation for the chance to have a son. As a result their offerings were always hot. Meanwhile the Kings forefathers also worried and aggrieved by the inauspicious atmosphere\, thought thus: “If there are no offspring there will be no one to offer oblations to us and deliver us from pitrloka.” \n“King Suketumana could feel the anxiety of his forefathers and grew ever increasingly determined to fulfil his obligation to them and beget a son. He also grew more and more morose\, however. He found no pleasure in his sports or recreations; he lost the taste for hunting\, found no pleasure in the music of the courtiers\, and he even became recluse from his friends and well-wishers. Merged in a fathomless ravine of staggeringly embarrassing hopelessness\, the maharati King considered his life useless. \n“He thought that\, without a son there would be no way of alleviating the debts to the demigods\, forefathers and future generations. Without being favoured by Sri Visnu one cannot conceive a child\, amass wealth or retain knowledge. Upon finding zero solace in his court the King left for the forest riding on a gleaming white horse. \n“King Suketumana entered the mighty forest that lay on the edge of his kingdom\, surrounded by a chorus of many birds. Unbeknown to him\, many wild beasts and cats silently watched him enter the eerie place; so quiet and still with moss. As the lonesome King passed deeper and deeper into the wood\, he passed many great trees. He saw Pipala and Date\, Tamarind and Palm\, Shal and Maulsiri\, Saptaparna and Sarala\, Tilak and Tamala and many others. Entering a clearing he came before a mammothian Banyan tree\, with branches springing up here\, there and everywhere. Hiding on\, among and around the branches he saw many wild animals such as Snakes\, Elephant\, Deer\, Monkeys\, Wild Boar\, Leopards\, Tigers and Lions. \n“The king became frightened by the racous howls of fearsome jackal packs and the plaintive hoots of nightbound owls. Wandering in this way through the wet wilds\, he thought thus: “I have performed so many sacrifices\, fed many brahmanas still I am suffering; what sacrifice can there be to free me from my rueful plight.” \n“Suddenly he came across a brilliant lake with many cakora birds\, swans and chakravaka sporting upon it’s crystalline waters. The vision was easily as lovely as Kusuma Sarovara. On seeing many sages chanting mantras on the banks of this lake\, King Suketumana approached them and offered obeisances to each of them in turn. The sages\, being pleased with the Kings humility spoke thus: “Oh dear King\, we are very satisfied with your stately respects and devotions and are prepared to assist you in your troubles. Please ask a benediction of us!” \n“The King Said\, “Who are you\, why have you come to this place? I am a King bereft of a son and therefore my whole kingdom seems void. How can I get a son and thereby mitigate the suffering of my citizens. \n“The sages replied\, “We are Visva devas\, we come here regularly to take bath in these sanctified waters. Today is Putrada Ekadasi\, anyone who observes this Ekadasi pleases Sri Visnu to great ends and has all his material and spiritual desires fulfilled. If one desires a son\, he will assuredly get one by following this Ekadasi vrata. \n“The king recounted: “I have observed many sacrifices for getting a son\, yet none have been sucessful. Please bless me\, so that I may be fortunate and receive my hearts desire\, a son and heir to the throne. \n“Simply observe this Ekadasi with great care and attention.” Replied the sages \n“Give up eating on this day\, remain awake and chant the glories of Hari\, by the mercy of Godhead you will conceive a son. \n“Thereafter\, the King observed Putrada Ekadasi. He broke fast the next day and after offering many respectful obeisances unto the sages\, he returned to his Kingdom. I due course of time Queen Saivya became pregnant. By the influence of Putrada Ekadasi and the blessings of the sages\, the King begot an intelligent and pious son. Thereafter the King happily ruled his Kingdom and his forefathers became pleased. \nLord Krsna continued\, “Oh King Yudhistira\, anyone who observes Putrada Ekadasi can get a son and attain the heavenly planets. Anyone who simply hears or sings the glories of this Ekadasi certainly achieves the result of performing an Asvamedha sacrifice.

SUMMARY:Disappearance Day of Sri Jiva Goswami 23rd Dec 2025
DESCRIPTION:Sri Sanatana\, Sri Rupa and Sri Vallabha were three brothers\, all employed in the service of the Badsa Hussain Shah. Amongst the three\, there was only one descendent\, Sri Jiva. Having been rewarded richly by the Badsa for their sevices\, their household life was very opulent. \nThere was nothing lacking in whatever was necessary for the upbringing of the only son. The house was illuminated by the effulgence of the child’s golden complexion; his eyes were like the expanded petals of the lotus; every part of his body was graced with a lusterous\, radiant splendor. When Sri Gaurasundara came to Ramakeli\, Sri Jiva was blessed by having darshana of His worshipable lord\, though he was just a baby at the time. Placing the dust of His lotus feet on the child’s head\, Mahaprabhu indicated him to be the future sovereign preceptor of the Gaudiya sampradaya. Though he was only a child\, Sri Jiva kept the form of the Lord\, which fascinates all the world\, within his heart. As he grew up\, while eating\, lying down\, in his dreams\, while he was awake\, at all times\, he would meditate on that form. \nLater on\, when his father and uncles renounced their family life in order to be with Mahaprabhu\, the only child\, Sri Jiva\, was left with his mother in the family palace at Fateyabad. Lying in her lap\, which was wet with tears of separation\, he gradually began to grow as the waxing moon. Seeing that the mother and the child’s face were always wet with tears\, their friends also fell under the shadow of sadness and only with great difficulty managed to assuage their grief. Whenever Sri Jiva would remember his father and uncles\, or the lotus feet of Sri Gaura Hari\, he would lose consiousness and fall to the ground. \nAs he got a little older\, Sri Jiva took up the worship of the Deities of Sri-Sri Rama-Krsna. He would carefully decorate Them and offer bhoga and arati\, serving Them with his full attention. Even in his play\, whatever games he played were connected with Sri krsna’s pastimes. \nWhile studying under the local panditas he became proficent in grammar\, poetry and rhetoric. Noting his great intellect\, his teachers commented\, “Such brilliance is not often found in a child so young as this. No doubt he will be a very high-souled\, saintly person.” \nEven while engaged in his studies Jiva always thought of Sri Sri Nitai-Gauranga. Once he saw in a dream that Sri Rama-Krsna had taken the forms of Nitai-Gauranga and were dancing. [B.R.1.732] Giving him the dust of Their lotus feet\, the Two Lords then disappeared. Having seen such a wonderful dream\, Sri Jiva was consoled somewhat. Then he began to think\, “When will I be able to crawl out of this well of family life and devote my full time and energy\, my very self\, to serving these two most magnanimous Lords?” But he was the only son of the family. Only in his company could his mother forget somewhat the pangs of separation in her heart. When Sri Jiva learned that his father had given up his life on the banks of the Ganga\, he was compeletely unsettled. After that his eyes were never dry. The family members and friends tried to console him but to little avail. Family life had become the source of his utter sadness. \nSomeone suggested to Jiva to go to Navadwipa and bathe himself in the coolness emanating from the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda Prabhu so that his mind and body\, burning with with grief\, could be refreshed. Thus Sri Jiva set our for Navadwipa with a group of pilgrims. [B.R.1/741]\nNityananda Prabhu\, the omniscient Lord\, could understand that Sri Jiva was on his way to Navadwipa. Therefore He also left for there from Khardaha. After a few days\, Jiva arrived at Navadwipa. Seeing the beauty of that place he was charmed. Falling down on the ground\, he offered his dandavats to Mother Ganges. Inquiring from the villagers the directions to Mayapura\, he learned that Nityananda Prabhu was residing at Srivasa Pandita’s house. At last arriving there\, he fell down at the door to offer his dandavats. Nityananda Prabhu came out with Srivasa Pandita and picked him up and embraced him\, asking\, “Are you the nephew of Sri Rupa and Sri Sanatana?” \nAs an answer\, Jiva again fell down on the ground at the lotus feet of Nityananda Prabhu. This time Nityananda Prabhu brought him in the house and began to inquire after the welfare of his family at Fateyabad. Then Sri Jiva was introduced to the devotees present in Navadwipa; he offered his salutations at their lotusfeet. Everyone was very happy to meet the nephew of Sri Rupa and Sanatana. That day Sri Jiva received the remnants of Nityananda prabhu’s prasadam. \nThe next day\, the two of them came to Saci Mata’a house. Seeing the birthplace of Sri Gaurasundara\, which was filled with such splendor\, Sri Jiva was greatly pacified and fell down on the ground to roll in the dust. In the large courtyard the devotees were singing songs praising the glories of Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Seeing Nityananda Prabhu\, everyone stood up and then fell down\, offering their dandavats at His lotus feet. Then Jiva saw Saci Mata sitting on the veranda. \nDressed in white with silk chadder around her shoulders she looked radiant\, the white of her hair blending with her white sari. Though her body trembled with old age and was very thin\, still the courtyard was illuminated by her divine effulgence. Forgetting herself in rememberance of Sri Gaursundara\, she was sitting with her eyes closed. Becoming aware that Nityananda Prabhu had arrived\, she covered her head with her sari and called her servant. “Isana! Srpada has arrived. Please wash His feet.” \nAfter this was done\, Nityananda offered namaskar to the mother of the Supreme Lord and took His seat. He then introduced Sri Jiva to her. Saci Mata placed her hand on his head to bless him\, and Sri Jiva floated in the ocean of happiness. Saci Mata then requested the two of them to honor the Lord’s prasada. “Take prasada here at your mother’s house today\, my child. I offered there preparations in secret to Sri Gaurcandra.” \nSri Jiva spent some days with Nityananda Prabhu\, touring the nine islands of Navadwipa\, in order to have darsana of the holy places of the Lord’s pastimes there. Then\, as ordered by Nityananda Prabhu\, he set out for Kasi (Varanasi) . At Kasi he studied Vedanta under Sri Madhusudana Vacaspati\, a disciple of Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya. The conclusions of Vedanta contained in Srimad-Bhagavatam that were expounded by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya in Puri had been in turn taught by the Bhattacarya to Madhusudana Vacaspati\, who established a toll at Kasi. From him\, Sri Jiva mastered the same conclusions. \nFrom here Sri Jiva set out for Sri Vrindavana where he received shelter at the lotus feet of his two uncles. Sri Rupa and Sanatana. They were very pleased to see him and received from him all the news. Jiva stayed with Sri Rupa\, who began to teach him Srimad Bhagavatam. After initiating him with the divine mantra\, Rupa engaged him in the service of Sri Sri Radha-Damodara. According to Sadhana dipika\, this Deity of Damodara was fashioned by Rupa Gosvami’s own hand for his dear disciple Sri Jiva. Sri Sri Radha-Damodara are presently being worshipped in Jaipur\, Rajasthan. \nSeeing that Jiva had quickly become conversant with the conclusion of the Srimad Bhagavatam\, Sri Rupa engaged him in proof-reading his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu. At this time Sri Jiva compiled a commentary on Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu called Durgama sangamani. In the year 1476 (Sakabda) Sri Sanatana Gosvami compiled Sri Vaisnava tosani\, a commentary on the tenth canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam\, which he gave to Sri Jiva for proof reading. Under the order of Sri Sanatana\, Sri Jiva compiled a commentary on that named Laghu Vaisnava tosani in the year 1500 (Sakabda). His writings\, along with those of Sri Rupa and Sri Sanatana\, Sri Gopal Bhatta\, Sri Raghunatha Bhatta\, Sri Raghunath das\, Sri Krsna das\, Sri Kasisvar Pandit\, and Sri Madhu Pandit\, completely captivated the learned men of that time. It was the beginning of a golden age at Sri Vraja dhama. \nSri Jiva regurlarly brought water for Sri Rupa and Sanatana’s bath. He massaged their heads with oil\, cleaned their ashram\, worship the Deity\, cooked and corrected manuscripts. \nAfter the disappearance of Sri Rupa and Sanatana\, Sri Jiva continued the tradition that they had inaugerated. Once Sri Jiva travelled to Agra to debate with the Rajputs concerning the glories of Jamuna and Ganga rivers. He established that the Jamuna is more glorious than the Ganga as the Ganga emanates from Krsna’s lotus feet whereas the Jamuna is His own consort. At this the Moghul emperor was very much satisfied and wanted to present him something. Sri Jiva replied that he would accept some blank papers. So the emperor presented Jiva some stained paper. (At that time paper was very rare and most manuscripts were usually composed on leaves.) \nThere is also a legend that once\, when a moghul emperor (possibly Akbar) wanted to confer something on the Goswamis of Vrindavana\, they requested a farman (emperor’s order) that no living beings would be killed within Vraja. As a result of this no king would come to hunt there anymore. \nThe disciple of Lokanatha Gosvami\, Narottama dasa Thakura Mahasaya\, Sri Gopala Bhatta Gosvami’s disciple Srinivasa Acarya Prabhu\, and the disciple of Hrdaya Caitanya Prabhu\, Sri Syamananda Prabhu\, were greatly favored by Srila Jiva Goswami. Under his tutelage they studied all the literatures of the Gosvamis. Later he sent them to preach this knowledge in Bengal. \nSrila Jiva Gosvami composed many literatures\, amongst them: \nHarinamamrta-vyakarana\nSutra-malika\nRasamrta-sesa\nGopala-virudavali\nSri-Madhava-mahotsava\nSri-Sankalpa-kalpavrksa\nBrahma-Samhita-tika\nBhakti-rasamrta-sindhu-tika (Durgama-sangamani)\nUjjvala-nilamani-tika (Locana-rocani)\nGopala-campu\nSat-sandharbha (Tattva-sandarbha\, Bhagavata-sandarbha\, Paramatma sandarbha\, Krsna-sandarbha\, Bhakti-sandharbha\, Priti-sandarbha)\nSrimad-Bhagavata-tika (Krama-sandarbha)\nLaghu-vaisnava-tosani (Tenth Canto Bhagavatam commentary)\nSarva-sambadina (commentary on Sat-sandarbha)\nGopala-tapani-tika (Sri-Suhkha-bodhini)\nPadma-puranastha-yogasara-stotra-tika\nGayatri-vyakhya-vivrti (A commentary on the Gayatri mantra as described in the Agni Purana\, chapters 216-217)\nRadha-Krsnarcana-candrika\nDhatu-sangraha\nBhavartha-sucaka-campu \nBirth: 1533 (Christian calendar)\, 1455 (Sakabdha)\, 12th day of the bright fortnight in the month of Bhadra.\nDisappearance : 1540 (Sakabdha)\, 3rd day of bright fortnight\, Pausa\nAge: 85 years

SUMMARY:Saphala Mahadvadasi 16th Dec 2025
DESCRIPTION:Saphala Ekadasi takes place during the waning moon of the Pausa month – December/January. The glories of this Ekadasi are insurmountably great. Actually there is no way to extol the divine results of observing Ekadasi; but still they are given in the Brahmananda Purana. Sri Krsna said to Arjuna: “Oh best of the Bharata lineage\, just as Lord Sesa is best among snakes\, Garuda is best among birds\, the horse yajna is best among sacrifices\, the Ganges is best among the rivers\, Sri Visnu is best among the demigods and the brahmanas are best among human beings; so\, among all vows of austerity the day of Ekadasi is best. \nThere was once a famous king named Bahuldan who lived in the city of Hirosena. He had four sons and a very beautiful wife. Among the Kings sons\, the eldest and most valiant was named Nalaka. This Prince Nalaka was extremely sinful. He would often blaspheme the Vaishnavas\, the brahmanas\, the demigods and he was attached to gambling. He would also regularly visit the houses of prostitutes. Consequently his father King Bahuldan exiled him to a far away land. \nBeing exiled far from the kingdom Nalaka lived in a vast jungle. He would eat wild berries and truffles\, roots and shoots\, raw meats and mushrooms to survive. At night he would sometimes return to his fathers kingdom and steal from the citizens houses. Despite his stealing the citizens were unable to stop him due to his being the son of the King. \nIn the forest where Nalaka lived there was a ginormous banyan tree. This tree was as worshipable as the demigods themselves. It’s branches reached down into the ground and reappeared here\, there and everywhere; forming an unimaginably mighty forest. For quite some time Nalaka lived beneath this timorous tree. \nBy accidence the day of Saphala Ekadasi fell while Nalaka was staying beneath this Banyan tree and he didn’t even realise. However due to exhaustion and fatigue from not eating properly Nalaka remained unconscious for many hours. He rose after noon on Ekadasi and because he was so weak did not kill any animals that day. He found some fruits and in a helpless pitiable condition decided to offer them to Sri Visnu – The Supreme Personality of Godhead. By the time the sun set on that day\, all he had managed to do was to offer one palmful of berries\, one branch of amalaki and one single qualscion fruit. Through the night he remained awake due to fear of wolves and his weak condition where he would be unable to defend himself. \nBy remaining awake fasting Prince Nalaka unwittingly observed Saphala Ekadasi. Lord Madhusudana accepted his austerities even though he didn’t realise it was Ekadasi. As a result of this unbeknown fast Nalaka’s father Bahuldan took pity on his wretched son and had him collected from the forest\, washed and bathed and reinstated in his rightful position as prince of the Hirosena province. Soon his father bequeathed the land unto Nalaka and he ruled as a just King. He acquired a beautiful wife and had many sons. \nBy observing Saphala Ekadasi one will certainly receive insurmountable benefits. Fame and liberation stand with folded palms before a person who fasts on this day. Those who choose to fast on this Ekadasi are indubitably great souls and will receive the result of performing an Asvamedha sacrifice.

SUMMARY:Moksada Ekadashi 1st Dec 2025
DESCRIPTION:This Ekadasi occurs in the month of Magashirsa November/December. The glories of this Ekadasi are untold. In the Brahmananda Purana they are described in a conversation between Krsna and Maharaja Yudhisthira.\nWhen Maharaja Yudhisthira questioned Krsna about this particular Ekadasi he asked: “How should one spend his time on this glorious day? Please explain to me the delineation of how to follow this Ekadasi and thus please The Supreme Personality of Godhead.” \nSri Krsna replied: “Oh my dear one\, Yudhisthira. If one worships the Supreme Lord on this most munificent day\, all his sinful reactions will be completely destroyed. One should offer tulasi leaves and manjaris to the Lords lotus feet. By so doing\, He will be unlimitedly pleased. By observing this Ekadasi one achieves the result of performing three hundred thousand Sankranta sacrifices. \n“There was once a king named Vaisakhacuda who lived in the city of Camakpura and ruled over it very mercifully. The citizens cared for him very much\, but he was despondent and couldn’t quite understand why. He was affectionate to the citizens and many highly qualified Brahmanas came to advise him regularly. One day the King had a vision in a vast dream he was having. He dreamt that his father had fallen into a hellish condition and was suffering a terrible afflictation of mind\, body and spirit. \nWhen realising this unbeknown truth the King decided very firmly to do something practical about it. The following day the King awoke at dawn and rallied his faithful confidants to his aid. He foreswore to explain to them exactly what had happened and be truthful in his telling. He also made a firm sankalpa to deliver his father from the decrepid position he had fallen into. \nUpon disclosing the nature of his dream and his intention to rectify the situation\, the kings brahmana advisors posited a perfect plan. They sat in counsel for a long time and mulled over the problem-analysing it from all possible angles of vision. The old and wise advisors to the king\, suggested many practical solutions and the younger brahmanas also raised some apt and pertinent points. \nWhen they’d completely eradicated all doubt from their minds; the plan forumulated in full concentration and they approached King Vaisakhacuda. \n“Oh King\, barely a stones throw from this place there is the hermitage of Parvata Muni.He is tri-kala-jna meaning he knows the past\, the present and the future simultaneously. We would request you to relate the topics of your dream to him.” \n“Once the brahmanas had recounted their conclusions to the King they accompanied him to the asrama of Parvata Muni. When the muni enquired as to the welfare of his lands the king replied \n“My Lord\, due to your munificence and exemplary character the people of our land are happy and contented. However\, despite the general welfare of the land I am troubled. A doubt has arisen in my mind and I believe you are my only hope in rectifying this difficulty. \n“After considering the Kings words the greatly sagacious muni known as Parvata began to speak. \n“In his previous life\, your father was very lusty and has thus degraded himself in this way. The best solution I can recommend\, in this particular case-is for you and your familiars to observe the vow of the Ekadasi that falls in the month of Maghashirsa. This one day of Ekadasi will free your father from all sinful reactions – if you just observe this one Ekadasi there will be no difficulty for you or your kin. Just observe this one day of austerity and by so doing-offer the resultant piety to your father. That way your father and your family will be relieved of the burdensome weight of sins accumulated over billions of births.” \n“After hearing the instruction of Parvata Muni\, King Vaisakhacuda and his courtiers returned to the palace at Camakpura. When the Ekadasi day arrived\, the King and his Queens\, along with the servants-observed the vrata or vow\, with enthusiasm. Upon completing the vociferous fast the father departed for the heavenly planet and blessed his son with all due love\, care and attention. The pious results accrued from such an act were so vast that they were shared with all\, to their fullest capacity. \n“Oh King\, anyone who observes this Ekadasi is certainly released from all his sinful reactions.”

SUMMARY:Utpanna Ekadashi 15th Nov 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Bhavisyottara Purana describes the glories of Utpanna Ekadasi in a conversation between Sri Krsna and Arjuna. Sri Suta Gosvami addressed the assembly of Brahmanas thus: “If one hears with devotion and faith\, the process and glories of executing Ekadasi as presribed by Sri Krishna\, then happiness in this life and liberation in the next is assuredly granted.” \nArjuna once asked Krsna\, “O Janardana\, please describe the fruits of fasting\, eating at night or at midday only\, on the Ekadasi day.”\nLord Krishna replied\, ” Oh Arjuna\, in the early Autumn there is an Ekadasi that falls during the waning moon of Maghasirsha (November). On this auspicious day a person should take the vow of Ekadasi. In the early morning he should make a firm sankalpa or vow to fast. At the high noon he should purify his body\, mind and senses by taking bath. While bathing he should pray thus: “Oh Asvakanthe\, Oh Rathakrante\, Oh Visnukrante\, Oh Vasundhare\, Oh Mrittike\, Oh Mother Earth\, please annhilitate my prarabdha karma (reactions from previous births) and grant me the boon of entering your spiritual kingdom.” After cleansing himself by bathing thus\, he should hear about\, glorify and remember Lord Govinda. \n“Once upon a time\, Indra approached the Supreme Personality of Godhead and prayed as follows: ‘Oh Lord of the Universe\, Oh Supreme Person\, we graciously offer our respects unto you. You are the topmost shelter\, the parent of everyone. You create and you maintain; and you are the destroyer of all! You are the ultimate benefactor and you are Lord Brahma\, Lord Visnu and Lord Shiva. You are the enjoyer of all sacrifices\, austerities and prayers; and you are the real enjoyer of all living entities. There is no object in all the worlds which is not owned and controlled by you. Oh Lord! Oh Supreme Personality of Godhead! Oh Lord of all demigods\, Oh protector of those who are surrendered at your lotus feet. The demigods have been evicted from their heavenly abodes by the demons. Please protect them. O great Lord of all\, we have fallen to the Earthly stratum and are now merged in the ocean of miseries\, kindly be pleased with us.’ \n“Upon hearing Indra’s very pitiful prayer\, Lord Visnu replied “Who is this great demon who has triumphed over the exalted demigods? What is his name? From whom did he get such power? Oh Indra\, please explain to me everything in detail. Have no fear! \n“Indra said: “Oh Lord of all demigods\, Oh deliverer of devotees\, Oh supreme Lord. A mightily ferocious demon has attacked the demigods. His influence has struck chords of chaos everywhere. The demigods are most distressed now and we do not know how to overcome this manxome foe. There is a demon named Nadijangha who appeared in a brahmana family. He has an awesomely powerful son\, infamously known as Mura. This Mura demon now lives in the fantastic city of Candravati! The Mura daemon has invaded the lusciously delightful heavenly planets and is now living there. He has dethroned Indra\, Agni\, Yama\, Vayu\, Isa\, Candrama\, Nairita and Varuna and taken the positions for himself. Although many\, we demigods could not stop his powerful assault. Oh Lord please kill this demon and protect the demigods. \n Upon hearing the plee of Indra\, Lord Visnu became furiously angry with those who had harrassed the demigods\, and he said\, “Oh king of the demigods\, This rascally demon will undoubtedly perish at the hand of my personal might. You should not fear\, you can return to the city of Candravati with peace of mind. I will solve this situation post haste and restore peace to the kingdom of the demigods!” \n Thereafter the multitude of demigods along with Lord Visnu proceeded towards the city of Candravati. A wonderful battle scene arose\, with demigods on one side and demons on the other. The Mura demon had a fearsome army of many followers\, there were demons of all shapes and sizes and the sight was truly kaleidoscopic. Lord Visnu and the demigods prepared an unbelievable array of weaponry\, and the demons also had a formidable arsenal. When the skirmish commenced the demons rushed at the demigods and the demigods fought with skillful dexterity. However\, after a time the demigods were scattered hither and thither by severe beatings from the demons. When Lord Visnu fetched the demigods together and led them in a group attack\, the combined effect ploughed into the demon horde. Although Lord Visnu flicked the lesser demons away as one wafts away a poisonous fly\, He took great pleasure in fighting with the demon Mura. In spite of attacking with various weapons\, the lord was unable to kill Mura. He wrestled with the archfiend for more than ten thousand years! Finally\, after a considerable scuffle-the Divine Lord defeated Mura and went to Badirikashrama. In Badirikashrama the Lord rested in a splendidly beautiful cave called Hemavati and took rest. \n The Supreme Personality Of Godhead said: “Oh Arjuna\, the Mura demon followed me to that cave and seeing me resting\, prepared to attack. Suddenly an incandescent daughter appeared from my body! She held many mystical and divine weapons & began to unmericilessly fight the demon. After slaying the demon the effulgent goddess cleaved his head from his body. Thereupon\, all other demons fled to Patalaloka. When I arose from my slumber I saw the dead body of the Mura demon and the radiant goddess stood before me with folded palms. \n Startled by such an extramundane sight the Personality of Godhead asked her “Who are you?” The goddess replied “Oh my Lord & Master\, I am born from out of your own body. I have removed this demon from his torment by cutting off his gruesome head. When he saw you resting he shamefully thought to kill you in your sleep! Therefore I have appeared and severed his head. \n The Supreme Lord said: “Oh Goddess\, i am grateful for your protection and well pleased with you for this kind act. You may ask any benediction you like from me.” \n “Oh Lord.” replied the deific beauty. \n “If you at all wish to give a boon unto me\, then please give unto me the potency to deliver even the most heinous sins from all who fast on this day. It is my heartfelt desire that even if one simply eats in the evening\, then that person will receive half the benefit of fasting; and if one eats only at noontime\, that person will receive half as much credit again. Please gift me with this auspicious favor. \n The Lord said: “You are undoubtedly my spiritual energy\, and since today is called Ekadasi – your name will be Ekadasi. Anybody who observes fasting on this\, your day-will have his sinful reactions alleviated and attain unending spiritual bliss. \n “Oh Arjuna\, from that day until this\, all Ekadasi days are vitalized by the Supreme Lord’s blessings. I award entrance to the supreme abode\, unto those who observe the day of Ekadasi. Oh dearest son of queen Kunti\, an Ekadasi which is mixed with Dvadasi is the best of all. One should always give up sex life\, eating grains\, honey\, meat\, eating off of bell metal\, and applying oil on the day of Ekadasi. If a person observes this Sri Ekadasi and hears of it’s illimatable glories he can obtain even more results!

SUMMARY:Katyayani Vrata Begins 6th Nov 2025
DESCRIPTION:Krishna Steals the Garments of the Unmarried Gopis \nThis chapter describes how the marriageable daughters of the cowherd men worshiped Katyayani to get Lord Sri Krishna as their husband\, and how Krishna stole the garments of the young girls and gave the girls benedictions. \nDuring the month of Margasirsha\, every day early in the morning the young daughters of the cowherds would take one another’s hands and\, singing of Krishna’s transcendental qualities\, go to the Yamuna to bathe. Desiring to obtain Krishna as their husband\, they would then worship the goddess Katyayani with incense\, flowers and other items. \nOne day\, the young gopis left their garments on the shore as usual and began playing in the water while chanting of Lord Krishna’s activities. Suddenly Krishna Himself came there\, took away all the garments and climbed a nearby kadamba tree. Wanting to tease the gopis\, Krishna said\, “I understand how fatigued you gopis are from your austerities\, so please come onto the shore and take back your clothes.” \nThe gopis then pretended to become angry and said the cold water of the Yamuna was giving them great pain. If Krishna did not give them back their garments\, they said\, they would inform King Kamsa of all that had happened. But if He did give the clothes back\, they would willingly carry out His orders in the mood of humble servants. \nSri Krishna replied that He had no fear of King Kamsa\, and that if the girls really intended to follow His command and be His maidservants they should each immediately come onto the shore and take their respective garments. The girls\, trembling from the cold\, climbed out of the water with their two hands covering their private parts. Krishna\, who felt great affection for them\, again spoke: “Because while executing a vow you bathed in the water naked\, you have committed an offense against the demigods\, and to counteract it you should offer obeisances with joined palms. Then your vow of austerity will achieve its full result.” \nThe gopis followed this instruction and\, folding their hands in respect\, offered obeisances to Sri Krishna. Satisfied\, He gave them back their clothing. But the young girls had become so attracted to Him that they could not leave. Understanding their minds\, Krishna said that He knew they had worshiped Katyayani to get Him as their husband. Because they had offered their hearts to Him\, their desires would never again become tainted by the mood of materialistic enjoyment\, just as fried barleycorns can no longer grow into shoots. Next autumn\, He told them\, their most cherished desire would be fulfilled. \nThen the gopis\, fully satisfied\, returned to Vraja\, and Sri Krishna and His cowherd friends went off to a distant place to graze the cows. \nSometime later\, when the boys felt disturbed by the great heat of summer\, they took shelter at the base of a tree that stood just like an umbrella. The Lord then said that the life of a tree is most excellent\, for even while feeling pain a tree continues to protect others from heat\, rain\, snow and so on. With its leaves\, flowers\, fruits\, shade\, roots\, bark\, wood\, fragrance\, sap\, ashes\, pulp and sprouts\, a tree fulfills the desires of everyone. This kind of life is ideal. Indeed\, said Krishna\, the perfection of life is to act with one’s vital energy\, wealth\, intelligence and words for the benefit of all. \nAfter the Lord had glorified the trees in this way\, the entire company went to the Yamuna\, where the cowherd boys let the cows drink the sweet water and also drank some themselves.

SUMMARY:Last day of Bhisma Pancaka 5th Nov 2025
DESCRIPTION:This kind of 5 day fast is also prescribed for the last 5 days of Kartika (Damodara) Month and it is known as “Bhisma Pancaka”. During that vrata puja offerings to the Lord are also prescribed. \nThere are also mantras that go with these offerings. However\, I didn’t find any specific mention about this for Purusottama month. In the Padma Purana it only stated that in addition to ekadasee one can observe a “pancaratrika” fast until amavasya. Here are offerings prescribed for Bhisma Pancaka. \nBhisma Pancaka Fasting \nThe fasting starts on Ekadasi Day and will continue until the\, Rasa purnima Day. The fasting is broken at sunset (or at moon rise) on Rasa Purnima day. Generally it is recommended to do full fast on Ekadasi and then the following four days fruits and roots fasting. Or one can do five day fruits and roots fasting. \nLevels of fasting:\nDevotees can choose whichever level of fasting as is convenient to them. It should not disturb their normal devotional service(s) and daily sadhana.\nLevel 1:\nOne can consume products of the cow (pancha-gavya) each for each day:\nFirst day: Cow dung (Gomaya)\nSecond day: Cow urine (Go-muutra)\nThird day: Cow milk (Kshiira)\nFourth day: Cow yoghurt (Dadhi)\nFifth day: All products of the ccow mixed (Pancha-gavya)\nLevel 2 (this is what Guru Maharaja has been following):\nIf one can’t follow level 1\, one can take fruits and roots fruits with many seeds should be avoided like guava\, pomegranate\, papaya\, cucumber etc. Boiled potatoes\, raw banana and sweet potato can be taken boiled or baked. We can use sea salt for taste. Cashewnuts\, raisins\, dates can be taken. We shouldn’t take milk and milk products in this level of fasting. Coconut water and grated coconut can be taken.\nLevel 3 :\nIf one can’t follow level 2\, one can take “Havishya.”\nReferences: Padma Puraana\, Brahma-khanda\, Chapter 23; Skanda Puraana\, Vishnu Khanda\, Kaartika Maahaatmya section\, Chapter 32; Garuda Purana\, Purva Khanda\, Chapter 123.\nIngredients for Havishya as mentioned in Sri Hari-bhakti-vilasa (13.10-13)\nThe following are ingredients that can be used in making Havishya\, which is like a khichari made with these items.\n* Aatap rice\n* Ghee from cow\n* ‘Saindhava’ salt (salt from ocean)\n* Milk from cow\n* Milk with cream\n* Ripe banana\n* Kaala-shaaka\n* Wheat\n* Fruits (Skanda Puraana\, Naagara Khanda says they must be with a small seed or with few seeds only)\n* Mango\n* Jackfruit\n* Labali fruit\n* Roots except ‘keaa’ (a type of grass or root)\n* Pippalii\n* Haritakii\n* Naagaranga\n* Ikshu-dravya or sugarcane derivatives (other than gur or mollasses)\n* No oil\nThe following ingredients are normally part of Havishya but have to be avoided in the month of Kaartika:\n* Mung dal\n* Til oil\n* Beta-shaaka\n* Shashtikaa-shaaka\n* Radish\n* Jeeraa\n* Tamarind\nOne should take bath in Ganges or a holy river every day and should offer tarpana 3 times for Bhismadeva by saying the following mantra:\nTarpana\nom vaiyaghra padya gotraya\nsamkrti pravaraya ca\naputraya dadamyetat\nsalilam bhismavarmane\nArghya\nvasunamavataraya\nsantanoratmajaya ca\narghyam dadami bhismaya\najanma brahmacarine\nPranam\nom bhismah santanavo birah\nsatyavadi jitendriyah\nabhiradbhiravapnatu\nputrapautrocitam kriyam
