Janmashtami celebrations at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh

After months of preparation, ISKCON Punjabi Bagh hosted thousands of visitors on the occasion of Janmashatami. This year’s Janamashtami came with a big challenge for the temple management. With the construction of a new temple in the same premises, there was no permanent structure to host thousands of visitors. To address this, a mammoth temporary structure – double the size of the original temple was set up over weeks. This structure gave enough space to thousands of visitors, donors, devotees, guests and VIPs.

Guests and donors were invited for Abhishek for three days immediately before the Janmashtami. Approximately, 13,000 plates of prasadam were distributed in these 3 days. A Janmashtami fair was also organized for these 3 days and on Janamasthami. This fair included kiosks of all kinds – books, food, games, devotee forums, and much more. A section of the mela named Krishna Akarshani was most popular among visitors where they played Krishna Conscious games. Darshans of the deities were open from morning to evening, and the temple hosted numerous VIP dignitaries and Media teams.

New exclusive dresses were offered to the deities and over 500 offerings were made in the deity kitchen for this most special occasion. The celebrations also included a cultural program in the evening, which entailed performing arts of various types – dances, drama, theatre, choirs etc.
