Going green, while respecting the sacred at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh

As part of its commitment to reduce its impact on the environment, ISKCON Punjabi Bagh has partnered with a local recycling unit (Green-o-tech). Each year around 500 KGs of paper waste (equivalent to a staggering 5KMs of A4 sheets lined up end to end) find their way to the bins or the scrapheap. This paper waste often includes sacred paper products that carry photos of the lord, like temple calendars, brochures, pamphlets, festival invitations etc. Disposal of such paper doesn’t only mean wastage but also a disrespect to sacred printed material. This had long been an unsolved problem bothering the temple management team. However, now, as part of its recycling tie-up, ISKCON Punjabi Bagh sends across all unused paper to the recycling unit which in return hands over eco-friendly recycled jute bags. These jute bags are now proudly used in all temple festivities. Through these measures, the temple and its community is committed to preserving the irreplaceable gifts of mother nature.
