Sri Krishna Janmashtami 2018
Lord Krishna describes in Bhagavad Gita (4.8) the reason for his appearance as follows:
paritranay sadhunam, vinsaya ca duskrtam
darma-samsthapanrthaya, sambhavami yuge yuge
To deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants, as well also restablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear millennium after millennium. But Lords appearance, birth, and activities, are all transcendental, and one who understands them factually becomes immediately eligible to be transferred to the spiritual world.
Devotees celebrate Krishna’s Birthday by chanting His glories, meditating on His names, offering Bhoga, performing cultural activities for the pleasure of Krishna, doing Abhishek, Maha-aarti and last but not the least offering delicious Prasadam to all.
Krishna took birth at midnight, the darkest hour, to fill our lives with the transcendental light of divinity. There were also huge rains and storms during Krishna’s appearance. This is to signify that Krishna can give us shelter from the torrential rain of miseries that storm our lives unexpectedly. His birth in a prison cell amidst chains and shackles signifies His compassion on us by awarding us the freedom from the cycle of birth and death.
Krishna also appeared in the city of Mathura, the abode of evil Kamsa who was motivated by greed, hate and envy. Krishna took birth in this city to release us from these negativities, and to fill our hearts with the rich experience of love of God.
Krishna appeared in this world for one purpose only – to teach us the process by which we can experience the love and the mercy of Krishna, the presence of Krishna 24 hours a day for all eternity.
Any offering made in charity on this auspicious day, Gets a chance to receive blessings from Lord for eternal benefit.
All glories to the most auspicious Janmashtami.
