ABOUT LORD BALARAMA
The auspicious appearance day of Lord Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Sri Krishna, is celebrated on the full-moon day of Shravana (August). Lord Balarama appeared as the son of Rohini and Vasudeva. He is also known as Baladeva and Sankarshana. He gives us the required spiritual strength to cross over the hurdles in our journey of self-realization. Devotees fast till noon and pray to Lord Balarama to bestow the spiritual strength needed to practice spiritual life.

Some of the Pastimes of Lord Balarama from Srimad Bhagwatam are:

1. Balarama slays demon Dhenukasura

2. Balarama kills Pralambasura

3. Balarama was always glorified by Krishna

4. Yamuna Devi was chastised when she did not gave way for Balarama

5. Kauravas chastised when they had captured Samba

6. Balarama marries Revati

7. Balarama became angry at Bhima for killing Duryodhana by trickery, but was appeased by Sri Krishna.

8.Killing of Romaharshana for not representing Vyasdev properly.

SIGNIFICANCE

Directly we cannot approach Krishna, only through Lord Balarama we can approach Supreme Lord Krishna. Spiritual master represents the true representation of Balarama. Thus, by following the instructions of the spiritual master and by pleasing him we can get the grace of Krishna.

CELEBRATION AT ISKCON PUNJABI BAGH

Celebrating Balaram Purnima at ISKCON Punjabi Bagh, is indeed special as it is the only Krishna Balaram temple in Delhi and NCR region. The presiding deities of Krishna Balaram’s special darshan makes the whole festival indeed very joyful. The day starts with Mangal aarti which is then followed by an array of blissful events like non stop kirtan, Balaram Katha, 101 bhogas and a feast for eyes Abhishek of the Lordships.

A special feast for everyone is distributed which culminates the celebrations.
