“All glories to Advaita Prabhu, the incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He induced Krishna to descend and thus delivered the entire world.”
Advaita Acharya appeared in fifteenth century Bengal, India, as a teacher of Krishna consciousness. He is frequently mentioned in the biography of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya Charitamrita, as an intimate associate of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and as an avatar of Krishna (specifically an incarnation of Sadashiva and Maha-Vishnu).
Advaita Acharya’s name indicates that He is nondifferent—advaita—from Krishna, and spiritual master—acharya—because He taught devotional service to Krishna.
Sri Advaita Acharya was a disciple of Srila Madhavendra Puri and is one of the chief figures amongst the Panchatattva – Sri Krishna Chaitanya, Prabhu Nityananda, Sri Advaita, Gadadhara and Srivasa.
Sri Advaita Acharya studied the Vedas and other scriptures under a scholar named Santacharya in Phulavati village near Santipura, where He was awarded the title ‘Acharya’.
The Caitanya-caritamrta describes Sri Advaita Acharya’s appeal to Lord Krishna to appear again on earth. He cried with such intensity that the sound traveled throughout the entire universe and ultimately reached Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Because of the loud cries of Sri Advaita Acharya, Mahaprabhu did indeed descend, appearing in Navadvipa on the full moon night of Phalguna (February–March). Thus the Lord came at the request of Advaita Acharya, His pure devotee, to reclaim the fallen souls.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself glorified Advaita Acharya and described His nature in the following manner:
“Advaita Acharya is God Himself. As a result of His association, I have become purified. Because there is no one equal to Him in devotion to Krishna, nor in knowledge of the scriptures, He is called Advaita Acharya. By His mercy, even the mlecchas become devotees of Krishna, who can describe the extent of His powers or His devotion?”
The place on the banks of the Ganga where Sri Advaita Acharya worshiped the shaligram shila and called out to the Lord to descend to the world is known today as Babla. A temple has been built in memory of Advaita Acharya’s pastimes there.
Srila Advaita Acharya Ki Jai!!
अद्वैत आचार्य पंद्रहवीं सदी में भारत के बंगाल में कृष्ण चेतना के टीचर के तौर पर आए थे। चैतन्य महाप्रभु की बायोग्राफी, चैतन्य चरितामृत में उनका ज़िक्र अक्सर चैतन्य महाप्रभु के करीबी साथी और कृष्ण के अवतार (खासकर सदाशिव और महा-विष्णु के अवतार) के तौर पर मिलता है।
अद्वैत आचार्य के नाम से पता चलता है कि वे कृष्ण से अलग नहीं हैं—अद्वैत—और आध्यात्मिक गुरु—आचार्य—क्योंकि उन्होंने कृष्ण को भक्ति सिखाई।
श्री अद्वैत आचार्य, श्रील माधवेंद्र पुरी के शिष्य थे और पंचतत्वों – श्री कृष्ण चैतन्य, प्रभु नित्यानंद, श्री अद्वैत, गदाधर और श्रीवास में से एक मुख्य व्यक्ति हैं।
श्री अद्वैत आचार्य ने शांतिपुरा के पास फुलावती गाँव में संताचार्य नाम के एक विद्वान से वेदों और दूसरे धर्मग्रंथों की पढ़ाई की, जहाँ उन्हें ‘आचार्य’ की उपाधि दी गई।
चैतन्य-चरितामृत में श्री अद्वैत आचार्य की भगवान कृष्ण से धरती पर फिर से आने की अपील के बारे में बताया गया है। उन्होंने इतनी ज़ोर से पुकारा कि आवाज़ पूरे ब्रह्मांड में फैल गई और आखिरकार श्री चैतन्य महाप्रभु तक पहुँची। श्री अद्वैत आचार्य की ज़ोरदार पुकार की वजह से, महाप्रभु सच में अवतरित हुए, और फाल्गुन (फरवरी-मार्च) की पूर्णिमा की रात को नवद्वीप में प्रकट हुए। इस तरह भगवान अपने सच्चे भक्त अद्वैत आचार्य के कहने पर, गिरी हुई आत्माओं को वापस लाने के लिए आए।
गंगा के किनारे वह जगह जहाँ श्री अद्वैत आचार्य ने शालिग्राम शिला की पूजा की और भगवान को दुनिया में आने के लिए पुकारा, आज बाबला के नाम से जानी जाती है। वहाँ अद्वैत आचार्य की लीलाओं की याद में एक मंदिर बनाया गया है।
